1) What genres are your favorites to read? How about to write in?
I read everything. I mean it, everything. I like pulp fiction just as much as I like brilliant classics. You might find me reading Faulkner one day and Lee Child the next. I love the written word. It’s like music to me. I love classics, opera, rock, punk, country, reggae—well, everything. Still, I know the difference between great music and fun music. I listen to everything and I read everything.
My writing is primarily literary
2) Who is one of your favorite characters that you have written? Please tell us about him/her and what book they are in.
My favorite is the unnamed wife in The Robber. I modeled her after my wife. She’s playful, beautiful, and perfect. Since the story is told from the husband’s point of view, you see her through the eyes of the man who loves her. Without question, she’s my favorite.
3) For those who have not read your work yet, what book would you recommend starting with?
I would start with The Robber. My writing isn’t for everyone, but anyone who likes that story will like most of what I write. You’ll discover right away that I write tragedy and remorse far more than happiness. I think negative emotions are universal more than positive. Certain events almost always cause paralyzing sadness, but the same can’t be said about events that cause joy.
4) Where can readers find and connect with you on the web?
I have several blogs. I review required reading on http://rosserreviews.blogspot.com/ and I have a great many academic articles at http://wjrosser.suite101.com. My Facebook author page at https://www.facebook.com/WJRosser is how I keep up with my readers.
5) What is one thing that you could not live without?
This one is easy. Single. Malt. Scotch. I think I can survive with just that. If everything else in my life was taken, a good single malt will offer the comfort I’ll need to get through the rest. And yes, you’ll find that drink in nearly everything I write.
