Michele Lang ~ 365 Days of Great Authors and Giveaways!

Michele Lang
Michele Lang writes supernatural tales: the stories of witches, lawyers, goddesses, bankers, demons, and other magical creatures hidden in plain sight. She is the author of the historical fantasy LADY LAZARUS, the first of a series. DARK VICTORY, the next novel in the series, releases in early 2012. In addition to this, Michele has practiced the unholy craft of litigation in both New York and Connecticut.

She returned to her native New York shortly before 9/11, and now lives in a small town on Long Island with her husband, her sons, and a rotating menagerie of cats, hermit crabs, and butterflies. Visit her on the web at www.michelelang.com

1) What genres are your favorites to read? How about to write in?

I love history, and read biographies and door-stoppers about American and world history when I am in the middle of writing a new story. David McCullough and Alison Weir are two of my favorite historians. I also love reading urban fantasy, historical fantasy, and paranormal romance: Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, Meljean Brooks, Nalini Singh, Naomi Novik, Charlaine Harris, and Kat Richardson are just a few of my favorites. As for writing, I love writing supernatural fiction of all kinds, whether edgy futuristic romances, time travel romances, historical fantasy, or contemporary romantic fantasy. A reviewer recently called one of my stories "a beautiful tale in a dark world" and I think that's an apt description of much of my work.

2) Who is one of your favorite characters that you have written? Please tell us about him/her and what book they are in.

I am half in love with Magda Lazarus, the main character of the LADY LAZARUS historical fantasy series. Magda's a witch of the blood who lives in a magical Budapest in 1939, right before World War II breaks out, and she fights the supernatural Nazi war machine with everything she's got. She's so moody and hellbent on fighting her enemies, but she's also funny, fanatically loyal and elegant. I wish I could meet her!

3) For those who have not read your work yet, what book would you recommend starting with?

If you love novels and historical fantasy, then definitely Lady Lazarus. If you love more contemporary stories, check out my short story The Walled Garden.

4) Where can readers find and connect with you on the web?

My website ~ facebook ~  twitter

5) What is one thing that you could not live without?

My husband -- he's a great-looking muse, amazing BBQ chef, and brilliant technowizard all in one!

Book Spotlight:

Lady LazarusLady Lazarus

With the romance of Twilight, the suspense of The Dresden Files, and the delicious thrills of True Blood, the enthralling saga of Magdalena Lazarus unfolds. Descended from the legendary witch of Ein Dor, she alone holds the power to summon the angel Raziel and stop Hitler and his supernatural minions from unleashing total war in Europe. The Nazis have fighters more fearsome than soldiers, weapons more terrifying than missiles, and allies that even they are afraid of SS werewolves; the demon Asmodel who possesses a willing Adolf Hitler, and other supernatural creatures all are literally hell-bent on preventing Magda from possessing the Book of Raziel, a magical text with the power to turn the tide against Hitler’s vast war machine.

Magda, young and rebellious, grew up in the cosmopolitan city of Budapest, unaware of her family’s heritage. When her mother dies, Magda—ready or not—is the Lazarus, who must face the evil that holds Europe in an iron grip. Unready to assume the mantle of her ancient birthright, but knowing that she must fight, she sets out across Europe searching for the Book. Magda is desperate enough to endanger her soul by summoning the avenging angel Raziel. When she sees him in the glory of his celestial presence, her heart is utterly, completely lost…

Dark VictoryDark Victory

Magda Lazarus was a reluctant witch until the dire threat of Nazi Germany convinced her to assume the mantle of her family’s ancient powers. But though this young, beautiful Jewish woman has fought off Hitler’s SS werewolves and the demon who would rule through the Führer, she has been unable to prevent the outbreak of World War II.

As long as Magda can summon spirits, there is still a chance to save people from the dire threat of the Holocaust. Her family’s guardian angel, Raziel, stands beside her in the battle against the human and supernatural forces of evil arrayed against her people and all of Europe.

In Michele Lang's Dark Victory, as the Nazis prepare to invade Poland, Magda and her beloved Raziel marshal their own army, a supernatural force that will battle Hitler’s minions to the death…or beyond.

The Magic of Fabulous

“You can live your life like a grub hidden inside a rotten tree, or you can live like a butterfly, brilliant and free and tossed by the wind. Now that’s the magic of fabulous, and that is what I have to offer you.”

But she intends to beat the odds. Without spell, fang or claw to protect her, Eva must cast her own spell of moxie and allure, concoct a dark magic of fabulous -- and not just endure, but fly.

THE MAGIC OF FABULOUS is a novella set in the world of the LADY LAZARUS historical fantasy series, and contains both an afterword by the author and excerpts from the other books in the series.
