Review: The Day After Tomorrow by Sandee Sgarlata

The Day After Tomorrow
by: Sandee Sgarlata

Paperback: 78 pages
Publisher: AC Publishing, Inc; First edition (February 2, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0980082420
ISBN-13: 978-0980082425# Product Dimensions: 8.1 x 5.3 x 0.3 inches

The Day After Tomorrow may be short in page length ( 78 pages ), but it is long on impact, meaning and power. Starting out, the story reads a bit like a diary of a teenage girl as she struggles with self image, the power struggle of freedom from parental control and most importantly, that first day of High School. The main character, Julia Monroe, talks to the reader, as if in any day to day conversation. Author Sandee Sgarlata writes in a way that is simple and allows the reader to walk in Julia's shoes, knowing her thoughts and internal struggles every step of the way.

The beginning focuses on those first couple days of school, including the love of her life telling the entire school that Julia and he had sex the previous afternoon. Left feeling betrayed my such a horrific lie, Julia goes to Michael's house to confront him, only to find him in the arms of another girl. What follows changes Julia's life forever.

The Day After Tomorrow is a painful peek inside the torment that a young teen girl goes through and the overwhelming decisions that they must make in this day and age. I have to say that as a mother of a young girl, I found the story a bit painful. The reasoning for this is that Julia's mother seemed to truly care for Julia, wanting only the best for her and for her to be safe. However, Julia only saw this as in intrusion into her life and truly resented her mother.

The second half of the story, however, is truly uplifting, hopeful and eyeopening. In all honesty, though geared toward Julia as a young teen girl, I feel the lessons learned in The Day After Tomorrow are lessons for everyone - no matter their age, sex, or walk of life. Through the story, I felt as though the author was talking directly to me. Teaching me that learning to forgive and forget is a vital step toward living a truly happy and fulfilled life. Take a step back from your ruling emotions (your ego) and look through the eyes and listen through the ears of your Higher Self. The Higher Self is the treasure and key to a happy life - we just have to be willing to listen and not allow it to be buried by our ego.

This was a deeply stirring and emotional story for me. It touched me and really made me think and put different aspects of my life into perspective. Out of all the self help and motivational books that I have read and come across, this simple little book has taught me and spoken to me in a way that all of the others combines, never managed to. Learning to live life without grudges, anger and hurtful thoughts may be difficult, but not only rewarding emotionally, but physically rewarding as our bodies are not contaminated with all of the harmful feelings and thoughts.

I wanted to share one of my favorite passages within The Day After Tomorrow:

Pg. 50

"You see Julia, what you just said is an example of how our 'ego' gets in the way. Acceptance is about coming from a place of love and only love. It's about allowing Mom to be who she is regardless of your own ideas of how you think she 'should' be. Acceptance is letting go of what you think about another person and allowing them to be who they are. The important thing here is to accept with love."

Julia learns an important lesson that accepting people for who and what they are is what is important - not condemning them because they are not who you think they should be, or do or say what you think they should. This is something that everyone should remember.

The Day After Tomorrow should be in every classroom - even starting in Junior High. The pressures that young people go through at a heart-breakingly young age is truly frightening. I honestly feel that to incorporate the book into the school curriculum would be a step in a very positive direction. On the flip side, I also feel that adults can learn a lot from this book also. It is too easy to get caught up in the hubbub and stress of day to day life, The Day After Tomorrow sits things back into their right perspective and would benefit each and every person.

I can't recommend The Day After Tomorrow enough. I anxiously await the next in this series and will be recommending this to everyone! Pick up a copy - it will truly change how you look at the people and world around you.

A glimpse at The Day After Tomorrow:

Teen life is difficult, and for Julia Monroe, her world is
crumbling down...Can she give peace a chance?

The Day After Tomorrow is the first novel in the Julia Monroe Series. The series tackles common issues to empower today's youth, so they know that they are not alone in their struggles. The story opens on the first day of Julia’s freshman year of high school. Julia’s melodramatic mind eloquently and dynamically demonstrates the all too familiar thoughts and feelings relevant to the average teen. Like so many young women, Julia’s thoughts are consumed by the object of her affection -- her boyfriend, Michael. Julia arrives at Michael's house and says "...he opens the door and has this huge, gorgeous smile on his face. He opens his arms up and gives me a huge bear hug. Then, he looks me straight in the eye and kisses me. Oh my God, I think I'm going to faint."

Julia then becomes distraught after a series of unfortunate events. She feels like her world is crumbling down, she's miserable and she doesn't know what to do --will she give peace a chance?

About Sandee Sgarlata:

Getting boys to notice you. Mean girls. Fitting in. Sandee Sgarlata met dozens of young girls with these typical teen issues as a former competitive figure skating coach, but one student still stands out to her today. This 14-year-old girl had difficulty facing the mounting stress and problems she had with friends and school. As her figure skating coach, Sandee decided to share her own struggles from her past – drug abuse, depression and grieving over the loss of family – and how she overcame them. The two remained close, and when her former student graduated from high school, she told Sandee how important the story was to her and how it helped to shape her teen years.

Moved by the impact her story had on this teen girl, Sandee felt inspired to write a book that would help teens take control of their destiny. In her new book, The Day After Tomorrow (AC Publishing, ISBN -0-9800824-2-5, February 2009, $9.95), the teenaged Julia Monroe experiences her first heartache, the power of a negative body image and an over-protective mother. The Day After Tomorrow tackles common teen issues to empower youth, so they can know they are not alone in their struggles.

Sandee was born in Portsmouth, Va., and started her ice skating career at the age of six. After losing her biological father as a toddler, followed by her brother 10 years later, Sandee began to look for ways to medicate her pain. Due to the grief she experienced at such a young age, and the pressures of the competitive figure skating world, Sandee began experimenting with drugs and alcohol in college. She successfully broke free from her dependence on drugs and alcohol in 1991, and decided to use her own journey to assist those dealing with addiction.

Sandee is a co-founder of 4give4peace, an organization that helps others strengthen their life skills. By incorporating self-awareness and meditation techniques, she works with individuals to cope with substance addictions. With an emphasis on the power of forgiveness and finding peace, Sandee is organizing Alliance for Peace Foundation, a non-profit organization that will mentor teens and help them work through adolescent issues, such as low self-esteem, managing stress and cultivating healthy friendships.

A certified life coach with Coach Training Alliance, Sandee is the former CEO of Eclipse Technical Resources, as well as a retired national-level, competitive figure-skating coach and gold medalist in ice dancing. Sandee lives in Ashburn, Va., with her eight year old son and husband of 17 years, Mark. She is currently working on the other books in the Julia Monroe series and is an active member of the Screen Actors Guild and United States Figure Skating Association.

Review - My Heart Has Wings by Kris King

by: Kris King

Hardcover: 333 pages

Language: English
ISBN-10: 1934454311
ISBN-13: 978-1934454312
Product Dimensions: 8.4 x 8.1 x 1 inches

My Heart Has Wings is a gloriously beautiful and encouraging book for people of all walks of the world. The author, Kris King, shares her journey, struggles and victories to become the truest person and the best version of herself that she could be. There are 52 wonderful reflections that the reader can do week by week - read each passage, examine each photograph, and do deep self reflection with the the questions at the end of each section. Granted, a reader may read the entire book at once, in sections, or however they please and they are guaranteed to take something away with them.

A few examples of the things that Ms. King talks candidly about within My Heart Has Wings are: When I Changed My Mind, I Changed My World, The Party's Over. Now What?, Simple Gifts, Spreading Our Wings, Dive In and Take Flight, Circles of Life, Divine Forgiveness, Becoming and Exceptional Parent, Person, Doing the Right Thing: Miracles, and ending with #52 - Let Your Light Shine. Each of the 52 sections begin with a mesmerizing photograph, then followed with a thought provoking quote, leading into Ms. King's writing and ending with a page of reflection.

My Heart Has Wings is a true treasure to cherish, to aid in reflection and allowing each and every individual to become the very best person that they can be. I really enjoyed this collection, for both the thought provoking stimulation, as well as the visual stimulation. I found the entire book to be very calming and comforting and truly feel this holds something for everyone.

I want to share a couple of poems from the book that really touched me.

Pg. 49 - 50

I bless the earth and all her people
holding all with tenderness and grace,
with respect for all of life
and spirit

I am blessed in marriage
two souls joining and independent
two hearts compassionate and true
two spirits soaring!

I bless the sun and the moon for
lighting my life
creating warmth
and the crystal night for
making space for my dreams

-Kris King

pg 327:

Is this a call to arms?
Not unless it is for arms to encircle
someone in need of tenderness.
Is this a call to arms?
Not unless it is for arms to point out a
new direction of peace and healing.
Is this a call to arms?
Not unless it is for arms to be a safety
net for those who are falling.
Is this a call to arms?
Not unless it is for our arms to entwine
courageously to take a stand for truth.
Is this a call to arms?
YES!

Savvy by Ingrid Law - Tour Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 and the final day, sadly, of Kidz Book Buzz tour for Savvy by Ingrid Law! I hope everyone who has been following along has been having as much fun as I have been doing the posts and hopefully you are ready to pick up a copy of this most excellent book!

Today, I thought I would do something a bit different and hopefully a bit of fun. In Savvy, Ingrid Law uses a wonderful whimsical use of wording. This not only added to the fantasy and fun of the story, but encourages children to look at words in an entirely new way. I thought, in recognition of that, I would do a bit of word play of my own with the title. Here is what I came up with:

S
ensational
Astounding
Victorious
Virtuous
Youthful

Using each letter in Savvy, I came up with a word that I thought describes the feelings that I took away from this story. I found Savvy to be an absolutely sensational and astounding story - unique in and of its very own. I found the characters to be victorious in there determination and I truly feel that Savvy has a very virtuous meaning - reminding us that we are all special in our own way. Youthful seems so perfect, not only because it is geared to the middle school youth, but because it makes the not so youthful, feel young and full of delight.

Word play is a delightfully fun way to learn and expand brain power and knowledge. Savvy is a wonderful and perfect way to expand imagination and bring an entirely new world to children, that they can make all their own. In conjunction with this idea, there is a teacher's guide, which can be downloaded here: http://us.penguingroup.com/static/packages/us/yreaders/savvy/Savvy.pdf that would work well for parents as well, to use at home while reading the book - allowing for an even more fabulous experience with Savvy!

Just to give you an idea of the fun and fantastical words that Ingrid Law uses in Savvy, here is a fun word find that can be found here: http://ingridlaw.com/WordFind using some of the great words found throughout the story! Also, click here for more of Ingrid's fun stuff including her fabulous blog!

Review - Cabal of the Westford Knight by David S. Brody

by: David S. Brody

Paperback: 425 pages
Publisher: Martin & Lawrence Press (January 27, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0977389871
ISBN-13: 978-0977389872
Product Dimensions: 8.8 x 6 x 1 inches

In all honesty, I am not even sure where to start with Cabal of the Westford Knight. The minute I began reading, I was truly entranced and could not, nor did I desire to, put the book down. Mr. Brody does a beyond marvelous job of creating a fictionalized story around real life and researched bits of history. In a way, reading Cabal of the Westford Knight, was a bit like reading an in depth history book, only with an excellent fictional story wrapped around the history lesson.

Cabal of the Westford Knight takes the reader on a step by step quest to learn an ancient, deeply buried and sacred truth. The main characters of Cameron (Cam) Thorne and Amanda are amazing, realistic and allow the reader to embrace them from the very beginning. Amanda is a British researcher who partners with Cam to help uncover long buried secrets - secrets that many have been murdered to keep. I found it delightful the way the author brings Amanda's British background to life through the proper use of the British language and slang. The candor between Amanda and Cam bring a warmth to the story, while the frantic and intense pace leave the reader racing from page to page.

With fact, fiction, myth and legend wrapped together, Mr. Brody presents the reader with an undeniably engrossing and addictive story. Cabal of the Westford Knight: Templars at the Newport Tower, is filled with twists and turns that will leave the reader guessing until the very end. As if the storytelling talent of Mr. Brody isn't enough, the photographs throughout aid in this delightful intertwining of fictionalized history and also add an engaging and very unique aspect to the story.

A bit along the same line as The Da Vinci, in respect to the religious aspects and secrets, Cabal of the Westford Knight is sure to be a huge hit. For anyone looking for a never ending ride, this is the perfect book - once you start, you will not want to put this book down. It is truly amazing and I look forward to exploring additional works by this author!

About Cabal of the Westford Knight: Templars at the Newport Tower:

CABAL OF THE WESTFORD KNIGHT is a groundbreaking suspense novel inspired by the legend of the Westford Knight. The legend recounts how Scottish explorers secretly visited Westford, Massachusetts in 1398, where they carved an effigy in stone to commemorate the death of a fallen comrade, a carving that remains visible today. But who were these explorers, and why had they come? The life of the story’s modern-day protagonist depends on finding the answers.

Based on the latest scientific, historical and archeological research, the novel takes readers on a tour of 600-year-old sites and artifacts throughout New England, binding together stone towers and ancient inscriptions in a plot that reveals the true secrets of both the Knights Templar and the Jesus bloodline. The artifacts and sites, all authentic and all illustrated within the book, provide compelling evidence that the heirs to the Jesus bloodline carried ancient Templar treasures and secrets with them to North America as they sought refuge from persecution by Church leaders. Here in the New World, they hoped to establish a New Jerusalem based on age-old pagan values and beliefs that they believed reflected the true teachings of Jesus.

Knights Templar in America. Secret societies. Buried treasures. The Jesus bloodline. Pagans infiltrating the Catholic Church. CABAL OF THE WESTFORD KNIGHT has it all. A feast for history buffs and those who love a literary rollercoaster, this is a cutting-edge novel of suspense that will captivate readers—and force historians to rewrite American history.

While trying to help an elderly couple save their home, attorney Cameron Thorne is thrust into a bloody tug-of-war involving secret societies, treasure hunters and keepers of the secrets of the Jesus bloodline. Joined by Amanda, a beautiful British researcher with secrets of her own, Cam races around New England with only two choices, unravel the 600-year-old mysteries encoded in the ancient Templar artifacts or die trying.

Excerpt:

The Monsignor crossed himself and bowed his head in a quick, silent prayer. He lifted his head and nodded, a nod that indicated agreement rather than merely understanding. “I need to be careful here — you and I, as attorney and priest, we are required to keep certain communications in strict confidence. So please excuse my oblique approach to this conversation.” He took a deep breath. “In the event you intend to continue to represent Mr. and Mrs. Gendron in this matter….” He paused and raised an eyebrow, offering Cam the opportunity to respond.

“Yes, I do. They need my help, and I’m responsible for what happened to Brandon — ”

The Monsignor lifted a hand to stop him, the silk robe rustling. “Nonsense. You did not plant the bomb. Whoever did so will have to answer to the proper authorities. In this world and the next.”

“Well, that may be but the Bobcat idea was mine.” He shivered, remembering Brandon’s bloodied body. “I’ll co
ntinue to represent them as long as they want me to. And I’m going to find out who did this to Brandon.”

“Good. I think they still need you. But I will suggest that you are only scratching the surface of this mystery, Mr. Thorne.”

“Wait. How do you know my name?”

The priest smiled. “I am familiar with your work in the sex abuse scandal cases.”

He appreciated Marcotte’s candor. In all the months he worked on the case, nobody from the Church had ever referred to the case as a sex abuse scandal. It was always ‘the allegations’ or ‘the incident’ or ‘the unfortunate conduct.’

“It took a lot of courage for you to do what you did. Leaking that testimony forced the Church to confront its crimes, to deal with its victims. Not many lawyers would have done what you did, risking your career like th
at.”

Cam smiled wryly. “Priests and lawyers. Not exactly the most popular members of society right now, are we?”

And to think, mothers used to dream of their children becoming lawyers or clergymen.” He took a deep breath. “But, getting back to the matter at hand, my recommendation is that you make an appointment with a young woman named Amanda Spencer. You can reach her through the Westford library. Do so soon. I’ve never met her personally but I believe she can shed some light on this matter.” He lifted his hand and stroked his chin. “But be careful. As you have seen, this is a volatile
situation.”

Cam looked back toward the driveway. “I doubt McLovick will try anything else. He knows the police will be watching him.”

“Regarding Mr. McLovick, consider this: If he planted the bomb, it means he is certain there is a treasure buried here, which makes him — whether in jail or not — a con
tinuing danger.” The Monsignor raised his index finger. “But perhaps he had nothing to do with the bomb. And if that is the case, then I think the danger is even greater.”

“I don’t follow.” Perhaps because his head was still ringing like a church bell

Review - Savvy by Ingrid Law - Tour Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of the Kidz Book Buzz tour for Savvy by Ingrid Law. Today, I am going to share my thoughts and review on the book and hope to pique your interest enough to pick up your own copy to enjoy! Here we go:

by: Ingrid Law

Reading level: Ages 9-12
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: Dial; Reprint edition (May 1, 2008)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0803733062
ISBN-13: 978-0803733060
Product Dimensions: 7.1 x 5.7 x 1.3 inches

I want to start off by saying a huge thank you to author Ingrid Law for creating such a marvelous book and one that took me out of both an emotional and a reading slump. You have my deepest gratitude.

Savvy is a magical, creative and magnificent book that will appeal to a huge audience of young, old, male and female. Though told from the viewpoint of Mibs, a young 13 year old girl, I think that the story itself and what it stands for will appeal to the male variety also. As a 35 year old, I simply adored this story and can't wait to share it with my soon to be 7 year old daughter (and my son when he gets a bit older). Geared toward middle school age (9 - 12), I have nothing but the utmost confidence that Savvy will greatly surpass that range.

There is a family that lives in Kansaska-Nebransas, a family like no other. Their name is the Beaumonts and consist of a typical father, Poppa, a perfect Momma, 3 boys: Rocket, Fish and Samson and 2 girls: Gypsy and Mibs. Now, the thing that makes this family like no other is that on their thirteenth birthday, each child's special savvy is revealed. For Rocket, it was an electrical savvy that can send bulbs popping and wires haywire, for Fish, is was the ability to turn a quiet calm day into rain, storm and if near any body of water a possible hurricane. Now, it is Mibs's turn to discover her special talent and savvy. As her thirteenth birthday approaches, she is both excited and a bit timid at the thought what may be awaiting her. Then tragedy occurs, sending their beloved Poppa into the hospital with Momma and Rocket following close behind to keep watch. This leaves Mibs, Fish, Samson and Gypsy at home with the preacher's wife.

It does not take long for Mibs to decide to take matters into her own hands and with the belief that she has the savvy to awaken the dead, she hops on board a big pink bible selling bus - quickly followed by her two brothers and the preacher's children Will and Bobby. What ensues is an adventure like no other, as the children learn lessons about one another that not only change them forever, but bring them closer together.

Savvy is a story of true self belief, friendship, trust and strong hope. I absolutely loved every aspect of it - from the whimsical wording to the delightful fun and fantasy of the characters and their lives. I can honestly say that I fell in love with every character and hated to see them go as the story came to an end. I desperately hope for a sequel, as there is a perfect ending for such. However, I am not sure if that is in store or not - I'm keeping my figures crossed!!

Not only is Savvy a wonderful story to fall into, but it is also leaves a tremendous opening to bring a child's imagination to life and spinning a tale all their own. If they could have any power in the world, what would it be? What can they find within themselves that makes them truly wonderful and unique? This book just leads to so much fun and opportunities.

I simply cannot say enough good things about Savvy. There was not a single aspect of the entire book that I disliked. I believe this to be a true treasure for any child or any adult who wants to escape from the everyday stresses that often bind our lives. What a wonderful thing for adult and child to bond with together. I highly recommend that you get your hands on a copy of Savvy - you will be quickly swept away!

As if waiting weren't hard enough, the family gets scary news two days before Mibs's birthday: Poppa has been in a terrible accident. Mibs develops the singular mission to get to the hospital and prove that her new power can save her dad. So she sneaks onto a salesman's bus... only to find the bus heading in the opposite direction. Suddenly Mibs finds herself on an unforgettable odyssey that will force her to make sense of growing up — and of other people, who might also have a few secrets hidden just beneath the skin.

Excerpt:

When my brother Fish turned Thirteen, we moved to the deepest part of inland because of the hurricane and, of course, the fact that he'd caused it. I had liked living down south on the edge of land, next to the pushing-pulling waves. I had liked it with a mighty kind of liking, so moving had been hard-hard like the pavement the first time I fell off my pink two-wheeler and my palms burned like fire from all of the hurt just under the skin. But it was plain that Fish could live nowhere near or nearby or next to or close to or on or around any largish bodies of water. Water had a way of triggering my brother and making ordinary, everyday weather take a frightening turn for the worse.

Unlike any normal hurricane, Fish's birthday storm had started without warning. One minute, my brother was tearing paper from presents in our backyard near the beach; the next minute, both Fish and the afternoon sky went a funny and fearsome shade of gray. My brother gripped the edge of the picnic table as the wind kicked up around him, gaining momentum and ripping the wrapping paper out of his hands, sailing it high up into the sky with all of the balloons and streamers roiling together and disintegrating like a birthday party in a blender. Groaning and cracking, trees shuddered and bent over double, uprooting and falling as easily as sticks in wet sand. Rain pelted us like gravel thrown by a playground bully as windows shattered and shingles ripped off the roof. As the storm surged and the ocean waves tossed and churned, spilling raging water and debris farther and farther up the beach, Momma and Poppa grabbed hold of Fish and held on tight, while the rest of us ran for cover. Momma and Poppa knew what was happening. They had been expecting something like this and knew that they had to keep my brother calm and help him ride out his storm.

That hurricane had been the shortest on record, but to keep the coastal towns safe from our Fish, our family had packed up and moved deep inland, plunging into the very heart of the land and stopping as close to the center of the country as we could get. There, without big water to fuel big storms, Fish could make it blow and rain without so much heartache and ruin.

Settling directly between Nebraska and Kansas in a little place all our own, just off Highway 81, we were well beyond hollering distance from the nearest neighbor, which was the best place to be for a family like ours. The closest town was merely a far-off blur across the highway, and was not even big enough to have its own school or store, or gas station or mayor.

Since this is a three day tour, I thought I would start out the first day talking about Savvies. In the book, Savvy, the Beaumont children have a very special talent that they keep hidden from the world. On their 13th birthday, each child is presented with their own special savvy. Now, by being presented, I mean that it makes itself known to that child sometime on during the day that they turn 13. The older child, Rocket, has a special electrical savvy, Fish's savvy deals with water, and the book's main character, Mibs, finds out that ink upon any one's skin, enables her to hear that person's thoughts. Though the book deals with these extraordinary powers, it also alerts to the fact that everyone has a very special part of them that is truly extraordinary - no matter how ordinary it may seem.

With this in mind, I want you all to think about the person you truly are and leave a comment about what makes you special and extraordinary. It could be the fact that you never give up, that you always look for the good in people, that you have a special knack with gardening or cooking, anything that you take pride in that makes you that special you.

I will start. I truly feel that my ability to be friendly and polite - always ready with a smile - is something that makes me a bit less than ordinary. I wholeheartedly feel that a warm smile, a friendly hello, please and thank - you can go a long way in brightening a person's day.

Ok, your turn! I want to hear what makes you special!

Please be sure to pop back tomorrow for my review of this positively delightful book: Savvy by Ingrid Law! It's a very special not to be missed story - and one that has made my favorites of the year list!!

First of all, I want to thank Hachette Book Group for allowing me to take part in this wonderful tour!

Follow Me is a delightfully wonderful book that will sweep the reader up from the first page until the last. As I was reading, I found the author's style to be reminiscent of Billie Letts, another favorite author of mine. Follow Me, focuses on Sally Werner, who in 1946 makes the decision to take a wild motorcycle ride with her cousin Daniel. Little does she know that when this impulsive decision is made, it will lead to a newborn baby and a complete change of her life.

Refusing to marry her cousin, she leaves behind her tiny 2 day old newborn at her parent's house and sets off to find a life of her own - some how, some where. Thus begins Sally's journey to make a good life for herself, find answers and find out about what real life is all about. Mistakes get made and mistakes become mended - that is what life is all about, no matter who you are and where you come from.

Ms. Scott has a very lyrical and melodic way of writing, which I found to be very appealing. I also noticed her writing to be a bit fragmented - which often gave me the sense of urgency within the character/s. Rather than distracting from, I felt this lent a deeper dimension to the telling of the story.

I really enjoyed the characters, especially Sally, and the excellent and moving way that Ms. Scott brought them to life within the pages. Follow Me is a wonder, engrossing and very difficult book to put down. Once the reader begins, they will not want to stop until the final word is read!

About Follow Me:

On a summer day in 1946 Sally Werner, the precocious young daughter of hardscrabble Pennsylvania farmers, secretly accepts her cousin's invitation to ride his new motorcycle. Like so much of what follows in Sally's life, it's an impulsive decision with dramatic and far-reaching consequences. Soon she abandons her home to begin a daring journey of self-creation, the truth of which she entrusts only with her granddaughter and namesake, six decades later. But when young Sally's father--a man she has never known--enters her life and offers another story altogether, she must uncover the truth of her grandmother's secret history.

Boldly rendered and beautifully told, in FOLLOW ME Joanna Scott has crafted a paean to the American tradition of re-invention and a sweeping saga of timeless and tender storytelling.

Review - The Sacred Sin by Estevan Vega

The Sacred Sin
by: Estevan Vega

Paperback: 218 pages
Publisher: PublishAmerica (August 20, 2007)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1424183065
ISBN-13: 978-1424183067
Product Dimensions: 9 x 6 x 0.8 inches

If you like horror, psychological terror and suspense, The Sacred Sin is the perfect read for you! Centering on L.A. homicide detective Jude Foster, who just happened to be taken in by a priest, at the age of seventeen, after losing his parents at a young age and fleeing from the cops - sure that they were his ticket back to juvi. The Sacred Sin is like a never ending tunnel ride of twists and turns. The reader is gripped within the story’s dark clutches, from the first word until the very last.

Jude is a dark and mysterious, almost tortured character. The author, Mr. Vega, has created a perfect leading character in Jude, as well as an excellent supporting character in Rachel Cragin, who has reluctantly returned to Los Angeles to help in the case of a sinister serial murderer.

Jude does not take kindly to his newest partner, Rachel, after losing his previous partner, Morgan Cross, who was like a brother to him. However, Jude doesn’t have a choice and together, he and Rachel must try to solve a crime spree that leaves it’s victims dead and with an imprint of a cross carved within them (seeming being carved from the inside out). Behind him, the killer leaves a note - phrases from the Bible with certain letters that are highlighted in blood.

There is an evil and sinister force that is out there, killing, taking souls and it all seems to revolve around Jude. But what part does he play in the entire scheme of things? Is there a dark monster lurking within him, waiting to come out and if so, can he stop it before it is too late?

The Sacred Sin is not a story for the squeamish or easily scared or offended. This is a story that takes the reader to the depths of hell and evil - leaving no question about good and villainous. Mr. Vega does a great job of composing his story and bringing the reader into a world of darkness and sinister evil. As I read, I was brought to mind of the writings of Stephen King, Wes Craven, early Dean R. Koontz, as well as Bentley Little. Estevan Vega shows great promise in becoming a lasting novelist and writer of the horror genre.

I greatly enjoyed The Sacred Sin and was woven tight within it tale. There were a few mechanical errors throughout, but not nearly enough to detract from the writing and story itself. I feel that lovers of the genres of horror/supernatural/suspense and thriller will get a charge out of The Sacred Sin and be yearning for more from Mr. Vega. I, for one, cannot wait to see what the future holds for this young talent.

As a side note, I do want to mention the cover artwork. It is fantastic and really represents the story within. Gazing upon the eyes, you are dragged into their reaches - a glimpse into a tortured soul.

About The Sacred Sin:

Everyone has a past. One that is inescapable. Jude Foster, an L.A. homicide detective, is on the brink of mental collapse. A year ago, he was left for dead by Morgan Cross, a once-close friend and partner. Now, although forced to undergo mindless psychoanalytical diatribes in order to be reinstated into the department, the world apathetically spins on. When a dead body is found in West Hollywood, an investigation is set in motion and Jude realizes, with the aid of Rachel Cragin, his annoying new interim partner, that the first victim is only the beginning. The markings on the bodies are trails to a more sadistic pattern of evil, one Jude may or may not recognize. But how does someone stop a killer who’s slaying his victims by stealing their souls, without ever touching them? As the time ticks, the countdown begins. They will have one week to uncover the sacred sin…and the darkness that lies within all men.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About Estevan Vega:
As a young boy, Estevan Vega never really felt interested in the written word. Far more fascinating things like comic book superheroes and sketching fantastical beings caught his eye. But in the fifth grade, writing short essays for a standoffish teacher ignited a fire that is still burning. Using his imaginative father as a springboard for ideas, Vega set out to write a full manuscript. His dream to become a published author came forth when he was just15 years old, releasing his first literary creation, Servant of the Realm,to the world, a story about a teenager who sees the future deaths of those he loves and tries to change it. "There is something therapeutic and natural about breathing life into the mundane, or finding escape through odd characters and strange concepts," says Vega.
The Sacred Sin, his second book, was published when he was 18, and shows a darker edge and deeper intensity than his first effort. The Sacred Sin bleeds with honesty and emotion, and tells the story of Jude Foster, a cynical self-loathing detective,assigned to bring down a serial killer capable of stealing victim's souls without ever touching them. Stopping this ghost killer, fighting against his demons, his inner darkness, may be the only path toward sanity and a new beginning. With a curiosity for the supernatural, as well as a feeling of discontentment with humanity's complacency, Vega’s story-lines dwell somewhere in between fiction and reality, a place where the world is as blurred and irregular as human choice and consequence.
Vega resides in Connecticut, a small New England state most people forget about. Tate Publishing will release his latest creation ARSON in 2009.
Excerpt:
Chapter Four
It wasn’t much of a welcome home, but she expected nothing less.
“I hate this city.”
The thought of returning to the place that took her father so many years ago made her want to puke. Rachel knew in her gut that she had some unfinished business with Los Angeles. It was one of those now or never things.
She fought the invasive hues of light that sketched through her windshield. The midday sun made the drive that much more of a drag. Rachel was still chewing on loose pieces of the fortune cookie she shoveled down her mouth an hour ago. Although it was pointless, she read the small sheet one last time. “You will meet someone interesting and unique today,” she said. Then she threw it out the window. “Why don’t they just tell me I’m going to breathe today? Could you be any more vague?” Rachel felt her head spin all over again. The fact that she sounded like the valley girls in high school that she always wanted to pummel didn’t help. It’d been three hours since she packed up from San Diego and was on her way to Hell as she knew it. “Okay, get a grip, Rachel, and stop talking to yourself.” She started pacing her breaths, focusing on the road, before screaming at a wild driver. “Yep, I’m home, all right.”
The sky painted a picture of fuchsia and bright orange. Amidst the cloudiness and smog, the breeze felt soothing, but it didn’t do much to calm her down. “What are you doing? This is not what you need. Another case? Are you out of your mind?” Rachel rolled her eyes, bellowing a curse at another driver. This time a taxi. With both hands choking the steering wheel, she stared at her reflection in the rearview mirror, “Lighten up, right? It’s not what you want, Rachel, but it’s your job. Cities can’t protect themselves.” A sigh. “Oh, stop with the heroine routine, Rachel, you don’t want to go, just say it. You’re afraid…but afraid of what?”
When she found enough space to get off the exit, she stopped at a gas station to fill up. She looked at her watch. Eight o’clock. Exhaling deeply, Rachel blinked a thousand times, before getting out of the car to pump her gas. “Just shut up, Rachel. You talk too much.”
* * * * *
Night found Jude parked on a city corner, cold. He was making a few notes on the printout Mike had given him, and was almost finished when he felt his cell phone vibrate hard in
his coat pocket.
“This is Foster,” Jude answered, scratching his cheek. It was the call he felt in his gut right before he got it. Often he’d been mistaken for having some kind of precognition, but he was never the type to embrace identities like a phony psychic or anything spiritual like that.
He listened carefully as he heard the familiar voice of the chief. “Are you okay?” Mike asked immediately, as if he read something severe in the detective’s voice.
“It’s 9:30, Mike, and I’ve spent the last four and a half hours finishing the paperwork on that kid yesterday. So for all intents and purposes, I’m fabulous.”
“Keep your sarcasm, Jude. Unfortunately, I’m at a crime scene. A unit’s on their way now.”
“Where?”
“Near the old factory, West Hollywood. Do you mind coming by?”
“I can always make time for the dead.” Jude hung up, got inside his car and gunned his car engine.
When Jude arrived on the scene, he looked around the perimeter before drawing nearer toward the house. The three family duplex was isolated from houses on either side by at least fifty feet. The factory exuded smoke from its huge cylindrical
beams about a hundred yards away.
As soon as Jude stepped through the door, he covered his nose, trying to evade the foul smell that the house filtered out.
“Foster,” called Chief Michael Harrison, “follow me.”
Jude followed him into a dark room filled with obscene posters. He studied one closely. It was of a naked blonde, posing with her chest forward and her tongue sliding through her thick red lips. As she bent over, the coaster on her back of a black snake burned its way into Jude’s head. He focused for a moment on another wall. Beside the grotesque pictures carved into the indigo paint, he read: Die bitch. I hope you rot in hell.
“And they say I’m crazy,” he mumbled to himself.
Mike turned to Jude, “You look like a skeleton. Have you eaten anything?
“I haven’t been hungry.”
“You look tired, too.”
Jude stammered, “Is this a physical or a crime scene?”
Mike folded his arms. “The body was found at about four a.m.”
“And you’re telling me about it now? Why would you withhold something like this from me?” Anger permeated through Jude’s gaze.
“Whitney was the first to see the body early this morning. Let’s face it; you weren’t exactly all together.”
Forensics had been called to take pictures and collect DNA. One of the unit members was consoling a hysterical woman about twenty-two years old. Jude still hadn’t even seen a body yet, but this had already evolved into a nasty investigation.
“Show me the stiff,” Jude said in a forceful tone.
Mike led him to the adjacent room and pointed to a horrid creature sprawled out on the floor with bloodshot eyes and a gaping off-centered jaw.
Jude stared; he tried to remain calm.
“Black male,” Mike said, “His name is Darius Garnett. He’s about thirty or so. Time of death…3:14 a.m.”
With a sigh, Jude asked, “There’s no bullet hole, no marks around the neck, no knife wounds. But from the looks of him, he sure as hell struggled. Do we know the cause of death?”
“That’s what we’ve been trying to figure out,” Mike said.
“But take a look under his chin.”
Jude put on a glove and lifted the man’s face. When he stared closely into the wound, he saw a black cruciform burned into the skin, permanent, as if tattooed.
“What do you make of it?” asked Mike.
“My guess…some religious fanatic who wanted to get a point across,” Jude said. “But what’s the motive?”
“As of now, we don’t know.”
Jude turned his gaze to the hysterical woman. “What about her, does she know anything?”
“She’s about as lucid as my mother on morphine.” Mike licked his lips. “We’ve tried getting information out of her, but she’s not cooperating.”
Jude looked at the body again, inquisitively.
“This doesn’t make much sense, I know,” Mike admitted.
“Maybe it makes perfect sense.”
“What do you mean? This man didn’t swallow any poison, and despite his drug habits, he didn’t overdose.”
“Drug habits? I want information on all his dealings with any neighborhood scum. I want his dealer’s name and address.”
“So you want the case?”
“Yes,” Jude replied hastily.
Mike narrowed his gaze. “Why do you want it so bad?”
The silence in Jude’s face echoed in his eyes.
“Am I missing something?”
Jude stood, moved his eyes back and forth, and approached Mike. “Have you thought about the possibility that this might involve…Victor?”
“Who?” Mike said, as if he’d forgotten the name.
“Call me crazy, Mike, but I think it’s safe to say that Victor might be a suspect.”
Mike shook his head. “Anything’s possible, detective—” he began to roll his eyes, “but it’s highly unlikely that Victor is responsible for this.”
“Why, because he’s been missing for years?”
“For starters…yes. Not to mention the fact that you and your deluded ex-partner were the only ones to ever even see him.”
Jude half-smirked. “Look, I’ve seen Victor, okay. And you’ve seen his handiwork before. God knows those bodies weren’t normal.”
Mike looked heavily into Jude, before replying, “But a cross, Foster? That’s not his mark.”
Jude rubbed his forehead. “You’re right, but it could still be him.”
“Now we’re right back to motive. He’s been missing for three years. No one knows if he’s still alive. And even if he is, why would he risk his safety in hiding for a few quick thrills here in
Los Angeles?”
“Because he can. Victor never touched anyone; he killed them some other way. This all sounds like some kind of story, but somehow he killed them. He believes he’s invincible. Maybe he wants to stir up commotion in the department that sought to put him away.”
Mike still didn’t agree. “You’re leaving too much up to chance. It doesn’t make any sense.”
“Since when did an investigation make sense? Look, you’re right, Mike, it’s a far cry. However, I think it would be smart to cover our asses here, in the event that this bastard…” he pointed down at the corpse, “really does belong to our friend Victor.”
Before Jude could spit out another sentence, a woman approached them both. “I agree with him, Mike.”
With a smile, Mike greeted her. “Jude, this is…”
“Rachel Cragin. I’ve worked homicide for five years in San Diego,” she said, firmly shaking Jude’s hand. “Chief Harrison contacted me last night, this morning actually, and I left as soon as I could.”
Jude, still puzzled, looked at Mike. “So why is she here? I thought I had the case.”
“You do, but Rachel is here to help.”
Jude leaned in toward Mike, ignoring Rachel completely.
“Mike, after all I’ve been through, the last thing I need is another partner. I thought you knew me better.”
“This is a crime scene, detective. Now is not the time to argue
with me.”
“I realize that, sir, but I don’t need her help.”
Rachel tapped Jude’s shoulder. “I can hear everything you’re saying. So why don’t we cut the crap. I’m not here to step on anyone’s toes. I’m here—”
“Because you can’t solve this case alone, Jude.” Mike looked at Rachel.
Jude studied her frame: freckles dotted her nose, and she had a small face. Her auburn hair cascaded backward into a bun. A small figure balanced out her independent features. Although she was only about five foot four or so, she looked tough.
“Look, whoever did this is still out there. As a detective, you should know that every little bit helps.” Her oval eyes gazed into Jude. “I know what happened between you and your former partner. I can only assume that’s why you’re so hesitant with me. I want to nail this scumbag as much as you do.”
“Enough with the adolescent bullshit,” Mike coughed dust out from his throat. “This place is like a cellar. Listen to me, both of you. Forensics will get the prints to the station as soon as they’ve checked them in at the lab. In the meantime, you two have got some acquainting to do and a case to look into. Foster, let me know if you find anything.”
Jude rolled his eyes at Mike, who was already walking away. Meanwhile, Rachel paced the floor, glancing at the body and all around the room. He watched her make a few notes and put the tiny booklet into her pocket. Then he gave her a hard look as he stepped away from the dead body.
She said, “So are you always this friendly to new people?”
“No,” he replied grimly.
He took a last glance at the pale life as it was being stuffed into a body bag. A chill rushed up his spine, as he muttered, “Stiffs.”
Rachel had left the room when Jude found a torn sheet of paper tucked beneath a loose floorboard. Anxiously, he studied it, reciting the words slowly in his mind, Thou shalt not kill.
With every condemning thud in his chest, it became difficult to breathe. When Jude felt the still-wet note with his fingertip, his head pounded. The U was written in blood.
Review - Faith and Honor by Robin Maderich
Faith and Honor
by: Robin Maderich
Paperback: 360 pages
Publisher: Blue Shutter Books (May 20, 2003)
ISBN-10: 0972937919
ISBN-13: 978-0972937917
Product Dimensions: 8.3 x 5.5 x 0.9 inches
If you enjoy a great historical romance about forbidden love and turbulance, than Faith and Honor is the perfect book for you! Faith Ashley is a young widow is strong, opinionated and not afraid to stand up for what she deeply believes in - independence. However, after meeting British Officer Fletcher Irons, she is torn between what lies in her heart for herself and what lies in her heart for her people.
Though in the beginning, Faith puts up a strong resistence to Fletcher, it doesn't take long for him to burst down those walls. Can there affection and love for one another survive distrust and loyalty for opposite positions or will they be torn apart?
Author Robin Maderich does a wonderful job bringing the story of Faith and Fletcher to life. They are both incredibly likeable characters, which the reader will feel an instance pull toward. Ms. Maderich also has a delightful talent for opening the world up and leading the reader to travel back in time to the 1770's, with her wording and dialect of the characters.
Faith and Honor is a great story to kick back and relax with. It is one of love, loyalty, sacrifice and sizzle. I look forward to reading the second book in the Honor Trilogy, Promises of Honor (a fitting name, as it promises to be another excellent book!
About Faith and Honor:
Faith and Honor -
Book I in the Honor Trilogy
Colonial Boston churns with rebellion, with every patriot
addressing the cause of freedom through thought and deed.
Persistent in her own dedication to the struggle for independence,
Faith Ashley is no exception. Rescued from the harassment of
British officers by Fletcher Irons, the young widow finds herself
attracted to him and confused by emotions long held in abeyance.
In their initial meeting, Fletcher appears to be merely another
Boston citizen on his way home; however, his secrets are soon
revealed. When war erupts in the first battles of the Revolution,
Faith is torn between her loyalty to the cause and her love for this
man who is far more than he seems. All of Faith's strength and
courage is put to the test to remain true not only to herself and to
her country, but to the man whose destiny rests with her own.
About the Author:
Although published in various genres of romance, both in print and electronic
format, my first novel was historical, released by Warner Books (before the big
merger with Time) in 1989. Faith and Honor has since been reprinted and the
second in the trilogy released. Most recently I am enjoying an association with
New Concepts Publishing and had a brief but satisfying association with Inara
Press. I also have an illustrated children's e-book published and hope to publish
more children's books in the near future.
The rural village in Pennsylvania where I reside with my husband and our
multiple pets has provided much of my recent inspiration. The fact that my three
sons are all grown has allowed me more time to pursue writing. As one might
expect, my feelings regarding that circumstance are mixed. However, they do
not live very far away and I see them often.
My interest in writing began at an early age when I wrote my first book in the
second grade. Titled Windy Day, the book was thirty pages of unpracticed prose
about a girl and her horse (what else?), complete with illustrations. From that
point, I read the first time through a book for pleasure and subsequent readings
were spent dissecting what had caught and kept my interest, the style in which
the book was written, the flow or phrasing and the particulars of description.
Enamored of the lyrical quality of the written word, I was hooked. My love of
history, research, the intricacies of detail and stretching my imagination have
aided me immensely through the ever-expanding process of learning my craft.
I hope to continue writing for a long time to come, sharing my work with
wonderful readers. To you, my thanks!
J.W. Nicklaus - Author Guest Post
It is my pleasure to welcome J.W. Nicklaus, author of The Light, The Dark & Ember Between, to Cafe of Dreams! I thank you, Mr. Nicklaus, for taking the time to write a wonderful guest post for us!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Few Things I Learned About Being a Published Author

When you lift anchor on your maiden voyage through publication you’re excited by salty smell of sea air, the water as it crashes and sprays against the fore bulkhead, and the adventure that awaits as you near the mouth of the bay and sail into the Big Blue. What you don’t immediately anticipate are rough seas and storms, or even sea sickness.

Your manuscript is through final edits, and maybe even on to galley before final proofing. You’re apt to think “Phew, I’ve done my part, now I’ll let the publisher take over.” Not so fast there, Davy Jones.

CHAPTER I

Ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.

I freely admit the number of writers I’ve interacted with, much less those who’ve been published, is in the low double digits. But I can tell you with a high degree of confidence that not a single one has told me their publisher is providing all the marketing for them. When I relate this to non-writer folks they seem a little taken aback; those days are long gone.

I personally haven’t heard any stories about publishers not being supportive of an author’s efforts, but that’s a far cry from being the well-oiled marketing machine some still associate with publishing houses. Fact is, it’s not only accepted that any author (with precious few exceptions) will self-promote, it’s expected.

CHAPTER II

Plan, and then plan some more . . . and it still won’t be enough.

There’s nothing original in the following sentence: Once you’ve finished writing your book your job has just begun, not ended. Your creative thinking doesn’t stop with the last word in your book. It just takes a different fork in the road—or a different tack, if I may extend the sailing metaphor.

Now you have to begin planning how you’re going to promote your labor of love, and that plan of attack will be different depending on what your target demographic is and the material presented. You have to read up on all the different ideas and approaches to selling yourself. Me, I’m no salesman—I believe in letting a product speak for itself. But if you can’t convince people to listen then the product will never whisper a word. When you’ve come up with what you think is a solid home run for your promotional effort, you can’t forget that there will be another at bat. Just because you knock one over the wall doesn’t mean you get to hit the showers. You may use a different bat next time, and certainly will face a different pitcher.
And the devil is in the details. You can’t expect each promotional event to be the same static thing time after time. Be dynamic, and plan for your audience, not for you.

Next step, just like shampooing your hair: lather, rinse, and repeat.

CHAPTER III

People are impressed with someone who’s been published—before they so much as breach the front cover.

I had told a few people about my book months before I knew it would be available. I had the cover to show them, but that was about it. Their eyes lit up at the mere mention of being published. You get to field lots of questions, ranging from your inspiration to the cost of the final product and where to get it. But the fun doesn’t stop there.

Not long ago I had taken the first batch of review books to the post office for postage. I walked up and started setting the big envelopes on the counter. The very first one, the clerk picked up and looked at the label. I had a color image of the book cover on the label, and she stood there and read the title aloud. I didn’t think much of it at that moment. Then she set it on the scale and casually went about her business with applying postage. As she punched in zip codes and labeled the envelopes, she asked “Are these gifts?”

“No, I wrote it,” I replied. “I’m sending them out for reviews ahead of release.” She stopped mid-process and smiled big. “I love to read!” she exclaimed. Like an idiot, it hadn’t occurred to me to bring an ARC or two along. The cost of one book may have been a pittance compared to the goodwill and potential free word-of-mouth marketing it produced. So next time I’ll be taking a couple with me.
Believe me, people seem to hold most authors in some positive esteem, a kind of gentle, respectful celebrity. I confess, it’s kind of cool.

CHAPTER IV

Be yourself, no matter what. People, especially readers, are generally pretty good at spotting poseurs.

I’ve noticed that when I’m asked about what I do (besides work), the instant I tell them I enjoy writing—well, I’m sure you already know the first question everyone asks:

“Ever had anything published?”

I say “Yes,” because I can now, and most people become very animated. My take on it is that they want to know about you. Sure, I’d bet they’re interested in the book, but getting to meet someone who has accomplished something of a public nature like writing a book is a very human-connection moment. At our core we’re very social animals, we like to know what makes others tick. For instance, my son and I recently got to tour Chase Field, the home for our Arizona Diamondbacks. We didn’t get to meet any of the players, they were all down on Tucson for Spring Training. Point is, we love going to the ballpark and being able to tour behind-the-scenes what a real kick. We even got to go into the DBacks dugout. Not one ball player was around, but the aura of just being in the place was exciting.

More to the point, as I’ve run into people I can very quickly tell that they’re reading non-verbal cues and subconsciously watching me. If I try to pretend to be some big-shot writer they’ll sense it and call me on it, one way or other—most likely by not caring to read the book. No author wants to suffer those slings and arrows.

Frankly, it’s too much work to pretend to be something I’m not, so I’m perfectly okay with it.

YOU DON’T REACH “THE END” FOR A LONG TIME

Just as with any entertainment related endeavor—movies, music, theater, festivals, etc.—there is so much more going on in support of it than the consumer knows. As with many things that look easy, the reason it looks easy is because there’s been plenty of preparation and thought applied well before you get to enjoy it.

My ship is just now approaching the mouth of the bay. The dock is a memory and back on the horizon now. I know the wide open ocean ahead holds a good number of challenges for me, but I hope to make the best use of my time with the other folks on board before we reach our last port of call.

About The Light, The Dark & Ember Between:

A collection of short stories, each a splinter's reflection of the human condition, firmly centered upon our oft tenuous, sometimes tensile bond with Hope, and careening flirtation with Love.

Fifteen stories: From the wispy fog of a love lost at sea, to an orphaned child who delivers a present of her own during a war-torn Christmas. These stories are gentle reminders to each of us of what it is to be human, and certainly of our affinity for the slightest glint of Hope.

About J.W. Nicklaus:

J.W. Nicklaus resides in a place not entirely fit for human habitation about five months of the year. No pets to speak of, only the apparitions from which all romantics suffer.

An Arizona native, he’s been from one coast to the other, and a few places in between. College brought an AA in Journalism with a minor in Photography, and a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications. His work experience has run the gamut from Creative Director for a small advertising firm in Tucson to a litigation support bureau in Phoenix (and assuredly some awkward stuff in the mix).

Snow has been featured prominently in his stories, perhaps because of the seasonless cli-mate he lives in. Nature was meant to be enjoyed and experienced, not hidden from the senses. So to that end, he hopes someday to live amongst those who are able to live through four true seasons, and not just blast furnace and warm.

He enjoys the occasional Arizona Diamondbacks game with his son, as well as watching him grow up. The experience of being a single dad has taught him far more about himself than he ever thought possible.

Within the expanse of every waking moment, he hopes his guardian angel keeps its arms open wide and heart ever watchful, for there but for one true Hope goes She.
