Welcome to Day 3 and the final day, sadly, of Kidz Book Buzz tour for Savvy by Ingrid Law! I hope everyone who has been following along has been having as much fun as I have been doing the posts and hopefully you are ready to pick up a copy of this most excellent book!
Today, I thought I would do something a bit different and hopefully a bit of fun. In Savvy, Ingrid Law uses a wonderful whimsical use of wording. This not only added to the fantasy and fun of the story, but encourages children to look at words in an entirely new way. I thought, in recognition of that, I would do a bit of word play of my own with the title. Here is what I came up with:
Sensational
Astounding
Victorious
Virtuous
Youthful
Using each letter in Savvy, I came up with a word that I thought describes the feelings that I took away from this story. I found Savvy to be an absolutely sensational and astounding story - unique in and of its very own. I found the characters to be victorious in there determination and I truly feel that Savvy has a very virtuous meaning - reminding us that we are all special in our own way. Youthful seems so perfect, not only because it is geared to the middle school youth, but because it makes the not so youthful, feel young and full of delight.
Word play is a delightfully fun way to learn and expand brain power and knowledge. Savvy is a wonderful and perfect way to expand imagination and bring an entirely new world to children, that they can make all their own. In conjunction with this idea, there is a teacher's guide, which can be downloaded here: http://us.penguingroup.com/static/packages/us/yreaders/savvy/Savvy.pdf that would work well for parents as well, to use at home while reading the book - allowing for an even more fabulous experience with Savvy!
Just to give you an idea of the fun and fantastical words that Ingrid Law uses in Savvy, here is a fun word find that can be found here: http://ingridlaw.com/WordFind using some of the great words found throughout the story!
