Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

I have not actually read this book yet, however, I watched the film version of it a couple of days ago and have to say that I simply adored it!!! Since the Jane Austen Challenge includes both books and films, I thought that I would give it a whirl. I am thrilled that I did! What a wonderful and romantic story 'Pride & Prejudice' is. Prior to watching this, I watched "Becoming Jane" which I also thought to be delightful. Watching authors come to life on screen is such a great way to pique one's interest in their works, I think.
Shortly after watching 'Pride & Prejudice', I began 'The Northanger Abbey', also by Jane Austen, and am able to perfectly envision each setting and happenings in the book. I feel that by watching the aforementioned two movies, I am able to put more of a visual to the sorts of dancing and attire of that era.
In any case, the actors who portrayed Austen's characters in 'Pride & Prejudice', did a wonderful job. I loved Keira Knightley's character of Elizabeth. Watching such a strong willed and spirited woman, such as Elizabeth, seems to mirror Jane Austen's own person. Elizabeth meets the wealthy Mr. Darcy, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and finds much to dislike about him. However, things are not always what they seem and in time, both realize that they are one in the same in personality and beliefs.
I have to honestly say that this has been added to my all time favorites list of movies. It is also one that I could happily watch again and again. I will also be adding the book to my collection and am anxious to read it.

Now you have to watch the BBC mini series version! It's even better. :-) I am glad you enjoyed the story. I really like Jane Austen's style and her stories. I'm slowly working my way through her books and eventually hope to read them all.

I will have to check and see when the mini series is on. Sounds like a great one to TiVo! Have you read Northanger Abbey? I would be anxious to hear your thoughts on it! Which has been your favorite of the ones that you have read?
